The previous games had perfectly fine point-and-click controls, nothing state of the art, but it worked fine and didn't really need to be changed. Let's start with the most noticeable bad thing about the game, the controls. If Curse was the middle child of the series, Escape is the half-brother we don't talk about that's in prison for doing Prince Andrew-related activities.
My playtime says 11 hours but the game itself only took about 5 maybe 6 of them TL:DR - If you're a patient person and a big enough fan of the series, follow the guides in the steam community tab to fix the game with some third party programs for resolution scaling and some other technical stuff and then enjoy, because its a surprisingly good game if you can get past the technical and mechanical nightmares.īut if you don't want to spend potentially more time fixing the game than actually playing it, maybe just try to find a play through on youtube to check out the story/puzzles. every 10 seconds.Īnd then theres the fact that you have a pretty high chance of your gamesave being broken from the start but you wont find out until a few hours into the game (when you use a rowboat to get to the bad guys hut) and then you have to download AN ADDITIONAL third party program to retroactively patch your gamefiles/gamesave to fix it unless you want to restart the game and hope for the best potentially repeatedly. Unless you're running this on an old machine and/or have an old school monitor you need a third party program just to run it through to get it to look passable AND GOD HELP YOU if you're also running a multi-monitor setup and somehow have less patience than me (which is not a lot)Īnd then there's the game breaking bugs that make you have to reload your last save nearly constantly at some points so don't forget to save, like. the lack of a cursor is a travesty and pointing guybrush at the things you need to interact with is just a mess. The controls are abysmal making this a ps2 game instead of just a pc game was the biggest mistake they could have made. unfortunately that's all the praise I can give it in good faith. the story and puzzle solving is on par with the series. I said I'd recommend it but I want to make it clear that I only recommend this particular game (and version) if you're reaallllyyyyy a fan of the Monkey Island series.
